Local Business Marketing: How You Can Dominate Google With ...

There are many things that a search engine optimization company, or SEO company, can do for a website. It does not really matter what the website is for as long as the people owning it want to get better exposure and want their site to rank higher on search engines. There are many tricks that can be performed to help boost a website?s rankings, but many of them are underhanded and if discovered can carry some significant repercussions that may even include preventing a website from every getting anywhere near the top of a search engine.

For an SEO company to be successful they must know what the search engines are looking for and the most prominent one to work with would be Google. Changing things on a website according to what they want on their search engine will likely sit well with other search engines as well. An SEO company knows this and uses it to their advantage.

'Evil Dead' Red Band Trailer: This Is Disgusting (VIDEO)

Evil Dead Red Band Trailer

"Evil Dead" red band trailer: read a book instead?

Let's keep this one simple. There are two types of people in the world: those who want to watch the new red band trailer for "Evil Dead" and those who would rather saw their own boil-covered arm off with a rusty saw. If you're in the former category, click above and check out the carnage in the brand new teaser for Fede Alvarez's self-proclaimed "most terrifying film you will ever experience"; everyone else, look at these pictures of cats in fridges.

Starring Jane Levy and a host of other young stars-turned-fresh meat, "Evil Dead" is a remake of the Sam Raimi 1981 cult classic. It focuses on a group of friends who head to a cabin in the woods, unlock a terrible demon secret and get murdered. (Paraphrasing.)

"Evil Dead" is out in theaters on April 12. Check out the VERY NSFW red band trailer above -- or don't, and click through those cat pics below.

NHL, union stay apart much of Thursday

NEW YORK (AP) ? Any momentum gained from a long night of negotiations between the NHL and the players' association seemed to have been lost Thursday when the sides remained mostly apart.

A meeting that Commissioner Gary Bettman said would begin at 10 a.m. EST didn't start until several hours later, and then ended quickly.

That one hour of talks centered on the reporting of hockey-related revenues by teams, and both sides signing off on the figures at the end of the fiscal year. The problem was resolved.

The key issues that are still threatening the hockey season weren't addressed then, but a small group of players and other union staff returned to the NHL office shortly before 6 p.m., to hold another meeting regarding the contentious pension plan.

Union head Donald Fehr didn't take part in either of the two sessions Thursday and it wasn't known if a full bargaining meeting would take place Thursday night.

The players' association held a conference call at 5 p.m. to discuss starting another vote among union membership that would give the executive board the power to invoke a disclaimer of interest and dissolve the union.

Members gave overwhelmingly approval last month, but the union declined to disclaim before a self-imposed deadline Wednesday night. It wasn't immediately known when a new authorization would expire. Players are expected to have 48 hours to vote, as opposed to the five days they were given the first time.

With the lockout in its 110th day, both sides understand the urgency to save a shortened season. They have several key issues to work out ? pensions and salary cap limits, among them.

Bettman has said a deal needs to be in place by next week so a 48-game season can begin Jan. 19. All games through Jan. 14 along with the All-Star game have been canceled, claiming more than 50 percent of the original schedule.

The sides met in small groups throughout the day Wednesday. They held a full bargaining session with a federal mediator at night that lasted nearly five hours and ended about 1 a.m. Thursday.

The biggest detail to emerge was that Fehr remained as union executive director after players passed on their first chance to declare a disclaimer that would turn the union into a trade association. The disclaimer would allow individual players to file antitrust lawsuits against the NHL.

Fehr wouldn't address the issue Wednesday, calling it an "internal matter," but added that the players were keeping all options open.

"The word disclaimer has yet to be uttered to us by the players' association," Bettman said Wednesday. "It's not that it gets filed anywhere with a court or the NLRB. When you disclaim interest as a union, you notify the other side. We have not been notified and it's never been discussed, so there has been no disclaimer."

It was believed the union wouldn't take action Wednesday if it saw progress being made. Neither side would characterize the talks or say if there was any movement toward common ground.

"There's been some progress but we're still apart on a number of issues," Bettman said. "As long as the process continues I am hopeful."

In a related move, the NHLPA filed a motion in federal court in New York on Thursday seeking to dismiss the league's suit to have the lockout declared legal. The NHL sued the union in mid-December, figuring the players were about to submit their own complaint against the league and possibly break up their union to gain an upper hand.

But the union argued that the NHL is using this suit "to force the players to remain in a union. Not only is it virtually unheard of for an employer to insist on the unionization of its employees, it is also directly contradicted by the rights guaranteed to employees under ... the National Labor Relations Act."

The court scheduled a status conference for the sides on Monday morning.

That still gives them time to get back to the table to try to reach a deal. There won't be one, however, if they don't resolve the differences regarding the players' pension.

Bettman called the pension plan a "very complicated issue."

"The number of variables and the number of issues that have to be addressed by people who carry the title actuary or pension lawyer are pretty numerous and it's pretty easy to get off track," Bettman said. "That is something we understand is important to the players."

The union's proposal Wednesday makes four offers between the sides since the NHL restarted negotiations Thursday with a proposal. The league presented the players with a counteroffer Tuesday night in response to one the union made Monday.

Fehr believed an agreement on a players-funded pension had been reached before talks blew up in early December. That apparently wasn't the case, or the NHL has changed its offer regarding the pension in exchange for agreeing to other things the union wanted.

The salary-cap number for the second year of the deal ? the 2013-14 season ? hasn't been established, and it is another point of contention. The league is pushing for a $60 million cap, while the union wants it to be $65 million.

In return for the higher cap number players would be willing to forgo a cap on escrow.

"We talk about lots of things and we even had some philosophical discussions about why particular issues were important to each of us," Bettman said. "That is part of the process."

The NHL proposed in its first offer Thursday that pension contributions come out of the players' share of revenues, and $50 million of the league's make-whole payment of $300 million will be allocated and set aside to fund potential underfunding liabilities of the plan at the end of the collective bargaining agreement.

Last month, the NHL agreed to raise its make-whole offer of deferred payments from $211 million to $300 million as part of a proposed package that required the union to agree on three nonnegotiable points. Instead, the union accepted the raise in funds, but then made counterproposals on the issues the league stated had no wiggle room.

"As you might expect, the differences between us relate to the core economic issues which don't involve the share," Fehr said of hockey-related revenue, which likely will be split 50-50.

The NHL is the only North American professional sports league to cancel a season because of a labor dispute, losing the 2004-05 campaign to a lockout. A 48-game season was played in 1995 after a lockout stretched into January.

9 Feng Shui Steps To Create The Life You Want

The bagua map is a grid of nine areas that can be laid upon the floor plan of a room or home that explains which areas of a home influence specific areas of your life.?

For example, the far right from the entrance door of a home or a room is an area focused on love & relationships. ?

If this area is empty (or, say, used as a mess room), your love life may reflect the same disarray!?

We could discuss the bagua for hours and have a great time, but for today, the important lessons are that the bagua is a diagnostic tool (not your destiny!).?

The areas that comprise the bagua can shine a light on under-valued aspects of your life and the bagua can help you design your dream life!

A little while back I got a call from a fabulous designer on the East Coast asking for my help to coach him in his question to be extraordinary. ?

Instantly I was interested.?

He had a system worked out based on the feng shui bagua map that encompassed engaging a coach in nine separate areas of his life that correlated with the nine areas of this feng shui tool. I was honored, flattered and agreed to coach him in one ?area? of the bagua map. ?

I also sat down and looked at his system and realized the genius that could be extracted from using the bagua as a ?life coaching? tool.

I experimented with y friend?s ?bagua? formula. What I learned was astonishing! While I could never ease myself with nine different life coaches at once, I actually needed help with aspects of my life I?d never seen before looking at the map in this way. ?

If I set a very modest but actionable goal or intention for each of the nine areas of my life that correlated to the bagua, would this make a difference? ?YES!!! A small shift in areas that seemed unrelated to my ?goals? actually moved me forward in every sense and helped me to live a more balanced and empowered life

The holistic life-design exercise I have enjoyed for the last few months is my big recommendation to you as you reflect on 2012 and make plans for 2013.?

Ready? Grab a piece of paper and something to write with!

  • Sketch out this map (see above) on a piece of paper.
  • Decide on a very small shift in action that you can take in each area of your life for next month and write it in the corresponding area.

1. Self-Empowerment/Money: could you save a few dollars a week, start a new personal business venture with a small step like a blog, hire a life coach that specializes in business? the possibilities are endless!

2. Power/Fame: since this area has to do with how the world sees you as manifesting your purpose, could you start by revamping your image online? (Add a few fresh photos? Tweak your blog design? A freshly designed portfolio? ) Could you try wearing some new colors in the new year that enhance you?

3. Love/Relationships: the classic ?love? area deals?primarily?with romantic relationships, but all kinds of relationships in actuality. If you are already dating with marginal success, maybe you can get more specific in your love search with a reputable matchmaker? Perhaps you can redo your bedroom or get some sexy new bedding? ?Remember, just one action or a shift in attitude in each area is all we need here.

4. Legacy: Do you honor your family? Can you improve your relationship with one family member, learn more about your genealogy, etc?

5. Health: Rather than planning an entire health revolution (you can, for sure, but this is about easy-to-accomplish moves!) could you steadily take a vitamin, take a walk, drink a smoothie or do a few minutes of yoga a day or a week? You know for you what will work, but for the intention of this exercise, pick a small thing like, ? I will eat a vegetable every day.? (I hope you do already! This is just an easy example?)?

6. Children & Creativity: If you don?t have kids, can you volunteer with kids? ?If you have kids, can you find new ways to bond with them? Or can you nurture your own creativity and inner child with a fun hobby or an artistic pursuit that you can act upon in 2013?

7. Wisdom: Learn! ?Decide how you can learn (An app that teaches you a new word a day? A subscription to the New York Times? A class? Webinars? Videos?) and make a bit of time to keep learning.

8. Self/Career: It?s always a good time to tune up your business/life plan and this exercise is already a huge step in that direction! You may have a goal or two in mind for the new year, but here we keep it to a small action. Will you hand out business cards to people you meet? Start a newsletter??You get the gist. A small action that feeds this area of your life without overtaking you.

9. Compassion & Helpful People: How much do you give to others in the spirit of selfless service? How much do you nourish your clients in business? Can you think of a way to give more to others? That energy always comes back, but you don?t really think about it because it feels so good to just give!

Take a walk through your house and see if there are any areas that you seem stuck on in your ?life map? that are also cluttered or neglected in your house. That?s your assignment: to clean it up and beautify what you aren?t excited about in your space?

Now, with no pressure, enjoy getting involved in your life as a whole. These steps may seem insignificant but I promise you, they are not! ?

And they are fun!

Next month, check in. If you dig the actions you are taking, keep them the same. If anything has fallen out of favor, switch up that area?and carry on.?

Oil rises as 'cliff' deadline approaches

NEW YORK (AP) ? Oil prices rose Monday with hopes that U.S. political leaders are getting closer to avoiding the "fiscal cliff" just hours before the deadline.

Negotiators for the White House and congressional Republicans in Congress, working against a midnight deadline, narrowed their differences Monday on legislation to avert across-the-board tax increases and spending cuts set to trigger on Tuesday.

But Republicans and Democrats remain divided, and it appears likely that financial markets will start 2013 without a clear picture of the budget policy of the U.S. economy ? the world's largest.

In afternoon trading benchmark oil rose 67 cents to $91.47 per barrel in New York. Oil has wavered in recent weeks along with the ups and downs of the budget negotiations. Through Friday oil had gained about 2 percent this month. Failure to reach a deal could eventually send the U.S. into another recession, which would drive down demand for energy.

Brent crude, used to price international varieties of oil, rose 35 cents to $110.97 a barrel.

The national average for gasoline hit $3.29 per gallon, well under the average of nearly $3.40 a month ago but 2 cents higher than a year ago.

In other energy futures trading:

Natural gas fell 11 cents, or 3.3 percent, to $3.37 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Wholesale gasoline rose 1 cent to $2.77 a gallon.

Heating oil gained a penny to $3.03 a gallon.
